The dives
Playa del Carmen sits on the Mesoamerican Reef, and our home sites run along the coast in front of Playacar. The reefs are shallow, sheltered and warm at 26 to 29°C, the current does the work on the drift sites, and the boat ride is ten minutes, so a morning here is two relaxed dives rather than a day at sea. We choose the two sites on the morning, based on the current, the visibility and the experience in the group.

The sites
Every site we dive regularly has its own page with depth, level, what lives there and the questions divers ask before booking it. Tell us which one you want to see and we build the morning around it when the conditions allow.

How it runs
Afternoon dives run the same way, meeting at our base at 12:00. If a cold front brings wind, we move to a sheltered site, and if the morning cannot run you choose another day or a refund; safety decides, not the schedule. Many divers pair a reef morning with a cenote day; in winter the bull shark dives are the other reason to come.
Who it is for
Certified divers from Open Water up, from any agency. Open Water is enough for the coral gardens, the turtle drift and most of the reefs; the wall and the wreck sit beyond 25 metres and need Advanced Open Water or equivalent logged deep experience, and we plan a shallower first dive for anyone who has not been deep for a while.
If it has been a while since your last dive, tell us when you book: a refresher in the pool or an easy first site is often the better start, and the second dive then feels like the dive you remember. Divers who are not certified yet start with the Open Water course, three days with four ocean dives on these same reefs.
When you want something bigger, we cross the channel: the Cozumel day trip meets at Coco Beach in Playa at 08:00 and crosses by speedboat, two drift dives on the walls and swim throughs of the marine park with brunch on the boat, back by 12:30, 3,400 MXN per diver. Yes, for certified Nitrox divers, 100 MXN extra per dive. It is worth asking for on the wall and the wreck, where it extends bottom time.
Tanks and weights are included. Full rental equipment is 500 MXN per day, added to your booking, and your own gear is always welcome.
We meet at our base in Playacar at 08:00 for the briefing, dive two reefs with a surface interval on the boat, and you are back before lunch with the afternoon free. Afternoon dives meet at 12:00. The exact timing depends on the sites and the sea.
Small, so the guide can keep everyone together and adapt the dive to the group. Group size depends on the day and the sites.
Your certification card, swimwear, a towel and a dry change of clothes. Reef safe sunscreen goes on after the dives, not before. A 3 mm wetsuit is enough most of the year and we advise on thickness for the winter months.
Safety comes first. If the wind is up we move to a sheltered site or change the plan; if the morning cannot run, you choose another day or a refund, and we tell you as early as we can.
